How to Get Data Off an Athlon Rangecraft
The Rangecraft Velocity Pro holds up to 50 sessions on the unit. Unlike a Garmin Xero, it has no thumb-drive mode — the way to your computer runs through Athlon's phone app. Here is how to get your sessions onto your computer and into Loadscope.
The short answer
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Sync | The unit sends its sessions to the Athlon Ballistics app on your phone over Bluetooth |
| 2. Export | The app saves a session as an Excel file (.xlsx) |
| 3. Send | Email, AirDrop or a cloud drive gets that file to your computer |
There is no cable shortcut. Athlon's manual lists the USB-C port as a charging port and gives no way to copy files over it.
1. Sync the unit to your phone
- On the Velocity Pro, open Settings and turn Connection (Bluetooth) on.
- Install Athlon's Ballistics app on your phone and sign in.
- In the app's menu, choose Connect Device. The first time, the app sends a code to the chronograph's screen — check that the two match.
- Once it's paired, tap Manage, then Sync Data. Your sessions copy from the unit into the app.
Those are the steps in Athlon's manual. Athlon has redesigned the app since it was printed, so a menu name may have moved.
2. Export the session as an Excel file
Open a session in the app and export it. What comes out is an Excel workbook (.xlsx): every shot's speed, plus the session's average, standard deviation and extreme spread, and the bullet weight if you entered one.
Then get it to your computer: email it to yourself, AirDrop it, or save it to a cloud drive.
3. Import it into Loadscope
In Loadscope, open Import Data, drop the Excel file in, and click Run Import. Loadscope recognizes an Athlon export on its own.
An Athlon file holds speeds but not charges. Loadscope gets the charges from your ladder plan: click Create New Load, enter your ladder once (start charge, step, number of charges), and shoot one session per charge, in that order. On import, Loadscope matches each string to the right charge by shot order.
If the export holds more sessions than your ladder has charges, Loadscope asks which ones belong to this ladder.
Garmin or Athlon: the data side
If you're choosing between the two chronographs, here is how they differ once the shooting is done. This covers only getting the numbers out, not how either one tracks a bullet.
| Garmin Xero C1 Pro | Athlon Rangecraft Velocity Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Sessions on the unit | 50 | 50 |
| Cable to a computer | Yes — it mounts as a drive, one .FIT file per session | No — the USB-C port is for charging |
| Phone app | ShotView | Athlon Ballistics |
| App export | .CSV for one session, .xlsx for several | Excel (.xlsx) |
| Into Loadscope | Plug it in, or import the ShotView file | Import the Excel export |
Both end up in the same place. Once the strings are in, Loadscope scores them the same way. (Getting data off a Garmin Xero)
Common snags
- No sessions show up in the app. Check that Connection is on in the unit's Settings, then run Sync Data again from Manage.
- The export has no date on it. Some don't. Shooting order is what ties a string to its charge, so keep the file names the app gives you — Loadscope reads numbered files in number order (
output 8,output 9,output 10). - The SD isn't what you expected. Check the shot count first. A shot deleted on the unit, or left out in the app, changes the session's numbers.
Let Loadscope read the ladder
Import the Athlon export and measure your groups right in Loadscope. It scores every powder charge and seating depth you tested, names your best load, predicts your full DOPE, and prints a range card — on Mac and Windows. No spreadsheets.
