What ChronoPlotter does well
ChronoPlotter is free and open-source, it's been around for years, and a lot of sharp handloaders trust it. It imports chronograph files (LabRadar, MagnetoSpeed, ProChrono, and e-target files like ShotMarker), then builds scatter graphs and line charts of your powder charge or seating depth tests — ES, SD, and velocity trend, all from a few clicks. If your chronograph is already on its supported list and you're comfortable reading a velocity chart yourself to find the flat spot, it's a genuinely good, no-cost option.
Where it's limited
- No direct Garmin Xero import yet. Garmin's own FIT file isn't supported — Xero owners have to manually enter data or re-export a CSV from the phone app as a workaround. If you shoot a Xero, that's an extra step every session.
- You still read the chart yourself. ChronoPlotter graphs velocity and helps you spot where things flatten out, but it doesn't weigh SD, group size, and mean radius together and name a winner — that judgment call is still yours.
- No group measuring. Chronograph data only. Measuring your target groups — size, mean radius, point of impact — happens in a separate tool or by hand with calipers.
- No DOPE or range card. Once you've picked a load, building the dial chart is a separate step.
