Its short, wide case burns powder efficiently and feeds from a short action, driving 165–215-grain .30 bullets fast with the kind of consistency that tightens velocity spread. What shooters reach for (starting points)
- Powder: H4350, IMR 4350, Reloder 17, Reloder 19, H4831SC and Reloder 23 are popular .300 WSM powders; match the burn rate to your bullet weight and barrel length, and pick one with good published data.
- Bullets: 165–180-grain bullets for a fast, flat hunting load (Nosler AccuBond, Hornady ELD-X), and 190–215-grain high-BC match bullets (Berger 200/215 Hybrid, Hornady 208/212 ELD-M) when you want to stretch it out.
- Brass: Winchester, Norma, Peterson, ADG and Nosler make good .300 WSM brass; consistent brass tightens your velocity spread before you touch the load.
- Primers: large rifle magnum — Federal 215M, CCI 250 and similar are used with the slower powders and heavier charges.
