Why the 6.5x47 is a match favorite
Its efficient case and small-rifle primer meter and ignite consistently, so velocity spreads come in low with less fuss than a bigger case. Recoil is mild, barrels last, and Lapua brass is exceptional out of the box — which is most of why it shoots. It is a cartridge that rewards careful ladder and seating work with the kind of single-digit SD that holds elevation at 1,000 yards.

- Powder: H4350 is the classic 6.5x47 powder; Varget, Reloder 16 and Vihtavuori N540/N550 are popular too. The efficient case likes medium-burn-rate powders — pick one with good published data for your bullet.
- Bullets: the 120–140-grain 6.5mm match bullets (Berger 130/140 Hybrid, Hornady 140 ELD-M, Lapua Scenar, Sierra 142 MatchKing) are the staples; heavier-for-caliber bullets hold wind best at distance.
- Brass: Lapua is the standard and the reason the cartridge exists; its quality and consistency are most of what makes the 6.5x47 shoot.
