How to Get Data Off a MagnetoSpeed

A MagnetoSpeed saves your strings two ways: the V3 writes them to its microSD card as one growing LOG.CSV (“Archive Series” on the device), and the XFR Bluetooth adapter emails a CSV to your phone. Either way, get that CSV onto your computer and read it into a tool that scores the load — instead of copying numbers off the little screen by hand.

The one thing to remember with a MagnetoSpeed is that it only keeps a string if you archive it on the device before powering down. Do that, and the rest is just moving a file.

The short answer

On the V3, save each string with Archive Series so it’s written to the microSD card’s LOG.CSV. Pull the card, put it in your computer, and open LOG.CSV — it holds every series you archived. If you use the XFR Bluetooth adapter instead, email yourself the CSV from the app and open that.

1. The microSD LOG.CSV (Archive Series)

This is the main path on a standalone V3. After each string, choose Archive Series on the device — that appends the string to LOG.CSV on the microSD card. One card can hold a whole day of shooting: each series starts with its own header, then a row per shot. Pull the card, read it on your computer, and every archived string is there in one file.

2. The XFR app (Bluetooth)

If you have the MagnetoSpeed XFR adapter, your strings sync to the phone app over Bluetooth, and the app can email a CSV. That’s handy when you’d rather not pull the card — just send the CSV to yourself and open it on the computer.

3. Straight into Loadscope

Drop the LOG.CSV or the XFR export into Loadscope and it reads both MagnetoSpeed layouts, splits the file back into your separate series, and pulls each string’s per-shot velocities. Common snags

• Archive, or it’s gone. A string you didn’t archive isn’t written to LOG.CSV. Archive each series on the device before you shut it off.
• One file, many strings. LOG.CSV keeps growing as you archive, so a whole powder ladder lives in one file — it becomes several ladder rows, in the order you shot them.
• It develops with it on the barrel. The MagnetoSpeed mounts to your barrel, so a group shot with it attached may not match a group shot with it off — keep that in mind when you read velocity and group together.
